Low key days

Little of interest to record over the past two days except satisfaction with la vie Parisienne.
On Thursday we spent some hours in the Musee Carnavalet, focused on the history of Paris from the 18th century on.

That afternoon we were
surprised to receive what purported to be an anguished email from a distinguished friend that said his family had been mugged by "gunmen" on holiday in the UK and begged an emergency loan to be transmitted to enable return home. The style was not his but the signature, Australian address and email address were genuine. I forwarded the email to his wife, and was told by reply that his yahoo account including contact book had apparently been hacked but at that stage Yahoo was denying responsibility and refusing to admit a problem. Such is the Internet.

On Thursday night we had a delightful and moderate cost meal at Le Gaigne. We cannot improve on the positive comments by many on Trip Advisor, and say bah! Humbug! to the only 2 less than effusive comments. See also www.restaurantlegaigne.fr

On Friday we went to Monge/ Mouffetard , and as the piece de resistance bought a dozen enormous oysters that the fishmonger opened and arranged on ice on a circular polystyrene platter with individual recesses for each oyster, covered with foil. These were safely conveyed to the apartment and consumed with delight as the first course tonight, followed by choice fresh salmon, and completed with portions of fresh goat and sheep cheese. A good but inexpensive Bordeaux complemented the meal.

The afternoon was spent strolling in the Pere La Chaise cemetery where many well known names can be found on tombs. See Bellini below.

On returning, we sat outside on the local pavement cafe with a beer and watched the soccer game of the primary school kids in the park opposite, les jeunes filles en passent, and the chaps on motor scooters scooting while puffing their cigs.
